Start-up grants 2023

Aim
Barncancerfonden (The Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund) is announcing a call for start-up grants for international, phase III/IV multi center studies on treatments against childhood cancer. The aim is to rapidly initiate studies in Sweden and that more children in Sweden should be given the opportunity to participate in a study.

Terms and conditions for the call
The grant is allocated as a one time grant to cover costs during the start-up of the study in Sweden. The study should be approved in the respective health care planning group and include a written and approved protocol of the decision that the study is a national recommendation.

The start-up grant is applied for in a simplified application process and can be applied for all year round.

The costs to perform the study is applied for in other calls.

Eligibility to apply

Approved costs
The grant should cover costs for the necessary administration prior to the start of the study in Sweden, for example, costs for applications to the Swedish Ethical Review Authority and Swedish Medical Products Agency, working time, as well as costs for regulation and legal support. The maximum sum of the start-up grant is 400 000 SEK.

About the grant
The grant is a block grant, unless otherwise stated in the decision letter.

Administration
The grant is to be be administered by a Swedish university or hospital.

Application period
The grant can be applied for all year round.

A complete application includes a filled-in web form and the following manadtory appendix in PDF-format:

The application should include a clear budget and budget motivation and usefulness for Swedish patients and/or childhood cancer research in Sweden should be apparent. Project description does not need to be attached.

Confirmation of the application
The main applicant confirms the application in connection to submission.

Follow up
A mandatory final report is submitted via the application portal within six months after the end of the project.
