Research program with a focus on toxicity and late complications

Purpose

The purpose of the research program is to enable national constellations of interprofessional researchers with complementary skills to work towards a common research goal, preferably with international collaborations. The goals of the research programs must be increased knowledge about toxicity and late complications and/or interventions for increased quality of life in children who have or will be affected by cancer. The programs must have high relevance for childhood cancer survivors and pediatric oncology, with a particular focus on neurocognitive, cardiovascular or fertility related complications.

Description of the grant call
Grants can be applied for from one to four years. A total of 16 million is available to apply for in this call, which may finance one to two research programs. Programs that aim to produce isolated research results and that are seen as owned by individual researchers cannot apply for funds in this call but are referred to the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund’s regular project calls.

Eligible to apply

Information about the grant form
The grant is a framework grant, unless otherwise stated in the grant decision.

Administration
The grant is to be administered by a Nordic university, college, or hospital or alternatively another Nordic organization with research in collaboration with a university or college. The grant is only paid out to the main applicant’s administrative organisation, which distributes grants to other organisations. It is the main applicant’s responsibility to ensure that only one deduction for indirect costs is made per grant.

Application
The application is submitted via the web-based application system. Please note that it is not possible to submit the application if mandatory information is missing. The attachment must be uploaded in pdf format and must not exceed 2 MB. Supplements or adjustments to the application after the announcement has closed are not accepted.

Application contents and documents
The draft application must be written in English and includes a completed web form including CV, a publication list from the main applicant and a program description (max. 2 A4 pages) as a mandatory attachment. Co-applicants are added in the web form but do not need to attach CV or publication list. The emphasis should be on the childhood cancer relevance of the goals, a detailed description of the co-applicant’s complementary skills and the feasibility of the project, which are described in the web form. The application must have a clear focus on toxicity and late complications within one of the three focus areas.

It is essential that the program is described so that its importance in a national/international context is clear. The applicant’s competencies must be reflected in the research program presented. The research program must include a preliminary overall budget (not detailed), as well as state the number of years for which funding is applied for. The main applicant is responsible for ensuring that the program has the anchoring required to be able to implement the program. The main applicant’s CV and list of publications are submitted in the application system under CV and publications tabs which can be found by clicking on edit personal data.

If the draft application is recommended, the main applicant will receive a notification by email as well as instructions on how to submit a complete application. Please note that a recommended draft application does not guarantee funding of the research program. There may only be minor deviations between the draft application and the full application submitted in step 2.

Confirmation of the application
For the application to be valid, it must be confirmed by the main applicant’s head of department, head of operations or equivalent. The main applicant confirms the application when submitted. Co-applicants confirm their participation via a link in an e-mail message sent from the system after the co-applicants have been added. Co-applicants who have not confirmed their participation must be deleted by the main applicant before the application is submitted. Please note that this must be done before the call closes. The day after the application is closed, an e-mail is sent to the head of department, head of operations or equivalent specified in the application with a request to confirm the application. The application must be confirmed no later than 7 days after the announcement has closed.
